A tragic shooting incident took place at Bedwan Sports Club's four-day kabaddi tournament in Mohali, Punjab, resulting in the death of promoter Kanwar Digvijay Singh, commonly known as Rana Balachauria. The assailant arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire at Balachauria, causing immediate panic among spectators.
Witnesses recounted the terrifying scene as the attacker escaped while firing shots into the air. One bystander stated, "It was chaos everywhere. People were running and screaming. We didn't know what was happening."
Fortis Hospital Mohali released an official statement: "We are deeply saddened to confirm that Mr Kanwar Digvijay Singh, a 30-year-old Kabaddi player, was brought to Fortis Hospital Mohali at 6:05 PM on 15th December 2025 with gunshot injuries. Despite immediate clinical assessment, he was declared brought dead. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time."
Law enforcement responded quickly to the scene, and Balachauria was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. DSP Harsimran Singh Ball verified the incident, confirming that police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Authorities are actively searching for the suspect.
"The police are investigating all angles, and we will soon catch the perpetrator," DSP Ball assured. The motivation behind the attack remains unknown at this time.
The shooting, which occurred during the match in Sohana, Mohali, has sparked serious concerns regarding security protocols at public events in the region. The tournament was expected to feature numerous high-profile kabaddi players, and it remains uncertain whether the event will proceed as planned.
