Brothers-in-Law Kill Man for Harassing Sister and Sharing Her Photos, Dump Body in Canal

Three men were arrested in Kaushambi for murdering their sister's husband, Surendra Kumar, who allegedly harassed her and shared her objectionable photographs. After beating him to death with sticks, they disposed of the body in a dry canal. Police solved the case within 12 hours using CCTV footage and surveillance, resulting in the arrest of the victim's brothers-in-law and their cousin near the Kilanhai river.

Police on Monday arrested three individuals for allegedly murdering their brother-in-law and disposing of his body in a sack in a dry canal in Kaushambi district, officials reported.

Two of the apprehended suspects informed the police that the victim, Surendra Kumar, who was married to their sister, would frequently harass her and question her fidelity.

The arrests were made one day after the body was discovered lying in a dry canal along the roadside near Mavaiya village in the Sarai Akil area.

Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar stated that the accused have been identified as Guddu and Golu, the victim's brothers-in-law, and their cousin Mahesh.

During a press conference, Kumar said, "The accused told police that Surendra repeatedly doubted his wife's character and harassed her. They also alleged that he had shared her objectionable photographs with several people, which infuriated them." According to the police, Surendra visited the village on December 13. Upon learning of his arrival, the accused allegedly invited him to meet them in an orchard on the outskirts of the village, where they beat him to death with sticks.

Following the murder, the accused placed the body in a sack and disposed of it in the canal, while the victim's motorcycle was parked at some distance to mislead investigators, police said.

The three accused were apprehended near the Kilanhai river within the Sarai Akil area following an investigation involving CCTV footage and surveillance inputs, Kumar said.

He noted that the case was solved within 12 hours of the body's recovery, and announced a cash reward of Rs 25,000 for the police team involved in the operation.
