Tragic Incident in Bihar: Father Takes Life After Attempting to Kill Five Children, Two Sons Survive

In a devastating incident in Bihar's Muzaffarpur, a 35-year-old father attempted to kill his five children before taking his own life on Sunday night. Three children did not survive the tragedy.

Amarnath Ram tried to hang all five of his children - Anuradha Kumari (12), Shivani Kumari (11), Radhika Kumari (7), Shivam Kumar (6), and Chandan Kumar (5). Tragically, all three daughters perished while his two sons managed to survive.

According to officials, Amarnath instructed his five children to stand on a trunk while he placed ropes around their necks. He also prepared a rope for himself. While Ram and his three daughters reportedly jumped, his two sons refused to do so.

Shivam, one of the surviving sons who witnessed the horrific event, told NDTV: "I was at home with my father and my siblings. I was using my phone when my father went to the bathroom. When he returned, he hung us one by one. I managed to unite the rope and survive."

Both surviving sons are now undergoing medical treatment.

Officials reported that Amarnath's wife had passed away last year, after which he had been suffering from mental health issues. Village residents informed police that he was experiencing significant financial and personal difficulties. They also mentioned that he appeared overwhelmed by the responsibility of raising five children alone.

The exact motive behind this tragic incident remains unknown.

Police have sent the deceased bodies for post-mortem examination and are investigating the case from all possible angles. Investigators hope that statements from the two surviving sons will provide more insight into the reasons behind this tragedy.

A case has been registered at the Sakra police station.

District police have also summoned a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team to collect evidence from the scene.
