A married couple of government school teachers tragically died when their car plunged into a canal in Punjab's Moga district due to dense fog severely limiting visibility. The incident occurred as the husband was driving his wife to election duty, highlighting the dangers of foggy driving conditions that also caused multiple serious pile-up accidents across neighboring Haryana the same day.

Teacher Couple Die As Car Falls Into Canal In Punjab Due To Dense Fog

A tragic incident occurred in Punjab's Moga district where a husband and wife, both school teachers, lost their lives when their vehicle plunged into a canal due to severely limited visibility caused by dense fog on Sunday morning.

The fatal accident happened as Jas Karan Singh was transporting his wife, Kamaljeet Kaur, to her assigned election duty at a polling station in Sangatpura village for the Punjab zila parishad elections. The heavy fog conditions made it impossible to see the road clearly, resulting in the driver losing control of the vehicle and falling into a canal adjacent to the roadway.

Both educators were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Kamaljeet Kaur was scheduled for election duty at the Sangatpura polling station, while her husband, Jas Karan Singh, originally from the Mansa district, taught English. The couple worked as government school teachers within the Moga district.

This tragedy occurs amid numerous fog-related vehicular accidents reported from neighboring Haryana on the same day. A significant incident took place in Rohtak's Meham area, involving a collision of 35-40 vehicles, predominantly trucks, resulting in multiple injuries. The chain-reaction crash began at a highway junction when a truck and car collided, triggering subsequent impacts with numerous other vehicles.

Additional accidents were documented in Hisar and Rewari regions. In Hisar, two state transport buses were involved in collisions with other vehicles at Dhiktana Moda on National Highway 52 around 8:00 am. The multi-vehicle pileup initiated when a Kaithal roadways bus struck a dumper truck. Subsequently, another bus collided with these vehicles, followed by additional impacts from a car and motorcycle.

In Rewari, National Highway 352 witnessed an accident involving three to four buses that collided severely due to poor visibility conditions. All injured parties were transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

Operating vehicles during foggy conditions requires heightened caution. Dense fog significantly reduces visibility, making it challenging to observe other vehicles and road conditions ahead. Reducing speed and maintaining adequate distance between vehicles can help prevent accidents during such hazardous weather conditions.
