Chaos at Kolkata Stadium During Lionel Messi's India Tour Labeled as "Systemic Failure" by West Bengal Governor

West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose condemned the chaotic scenes at Kolkata's Salt Lake Stadium during football superstar Lionel Messi's brief appearance, calling it a "systemic failure" that humiliated both the state and sporting world. The incident saw angry fans storming the pitch when they couldn't properly see Messi, leading to vandalism and requiring riot control intervention. The event organizer was subsequently arrested as Messi continued his three-city India tour.

West Bengal CV Ananda Bose described the disturbance at Kolkata's Salt Lake Stadium following Lionel Messi's brief appearance as a "systemic failure".

In an interview with NDTV, Bose stated, "Sad is an understatement. It is not just humiliating for the people of West Bengal, but also for the entire sporting world. This is something Kolkata never deserved."

Bose's comments followed an incident where passionate football fans invaded the pitch and damaged facilities at Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday morning, frustrated after failing to see Messi properly during his initial stop on a three-day Indian tour. The situation escalated to the point where riot control forces were deployed when police could not maintain order.

Bose criticized both the event organizers and law enforcement, calling it "a dark day for the sports-loving people of Kolkata." He issued 12 specific directives to the state government, including conducting a judicial investigation, apprehending the organizer, and ensuring ticket refunds for attendees.

Shatadru Dutta, the primary organizer of the event, was subsequently arrested following the filing of an FIR.

After leaving Kolkata, Messi traveled to Hyderabad on Saturday evening, with planned visits to Mumbai on Sunday and Delhi on Monday.
