Team Rajinikanth has officially distanced themselves from any connection to the controversy.
A controversy has erupted in Tamil Nadu's Madurai district after a poster featuring superstar Rajinikanth appeared at a hunger strike location in Thiruparankundram. The demonstration, primarily organized by individuals believed to be associated with Hindu organizations and the BJP, centers around demands to light a lamp on a pillar adjacent to a dargah atop a hill, following a recent court directive.
The controversial poster displayed Rajinikanth's image alongside the statement "Court's Judgement is God's Judgement," implying the message came directly from the actor himself regarding the Karthigai Deepam dispute.
In a conversation with NDTV, local Rajini Fan Club secretary Saravana stated, "Thalaivar had mentioned previously that court verdicts should be respected. According to the judicial order, the Deepam should be permitted to be lit on the hilltop. With locals now protesting, Rajinikanth, who is known for his spiritual nature, would support this position."
However, Rajinikanth's official team has categorically denied any involvement, telling NDTV: "They have erected the banner independently without authorization." This clarification emphasizes the superstar has sent no such message regarding the matter.
Though Rajinikanth maintained political aspirations for many years, keeping fans in anticipation, he ultimately withdrew from politics in 2020 without ever entering an election. Recognized for his profound spirituality, he now deliberately avoids political questions and refrains from taking public stances on controversial issues.
The temple administration and Tamil Nadu Government have not implemented the recent court order, raising concerns about departing from a century-old tradition that restricts lamp lighting to the vicinity of the Uchhi Pillayar temple on the middle section of the hill. This situation has reportedly offended the sentiments of local communities and devotees. Municipal authorities also express concerns regarding potential law and order problems, particularly regarding the dargah's safety.
Despite the petitioner receiving permission to light the lamp, police prevented the action. Consequently, the court initiated contempt proceedings. Currently, a two-judge bench is hearing the state government's appeal, which has also approached the Supreme Court to challenge the contempt proceedings.
