Police arrested Lalit Kishor from Sitamarhi, Bihar, who had been impersonating an IAS officer named 'Gaurav Kumar' for six months. His brother-in-law Abhishek Kumar and accomplice Parmanand Gupta were also apprehended during the operation.
Gorakhpur authorities revealed that Kishor had established an elaborate fraudulent operation involving fake inspections, promising government tenders and jobs, while extorting substantial sums of money from victims.
The scheme was uncovered following an anonymous tip that led investigators to Kishor's rented accommodation in Chiluatal and his office located in Jhungiya Bazar.
To maintain his convincing facade, Kishor traveled in vehicles equipped with official beacons, displayed counterfeit government license plates, and employed ten armed guards at a monthly salary of Rs 30,000 each. He even hired a stenographer who received Rs 60,000 per month.
During the arrest, police seized numerous forged identification documents, laptops, jewelry, cash, and AI-manipulated photographs where Kishor had digitally replaced genuine officials' faces with his own.
Authorities reported that Kishor conducted fraudulent "inspections" at private educational institutions, extracting large payments from administrators. In one case, his associates allegedly demanded Rs 55 lakh from a school in Bhatat.
Police investigations indicate that Kishor's fraudulent activities extended across multiple states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh.
One victim from Patna claimed to have paid over Rs 1.70 crore and provided two vehicles to secure government tenders that never materialized.
Additional SP, City Abhinav Tyagi confirmed: "Fake IAS officer Lalit Kishor and his two associates have been arrested and sent to jail. We urge anyone who has been victimized to approach the police office and register a complaint."
