In Thane, a construction supervisor who initially reported being robbed has been arrested for fabricating the crime to embezzle his company's funds totaling Rs 2.23 lakh, according to district police statements released Friday.
Sushant Dashrath Mohite (36) had filed a complaint at Kashigaon Police Station on December 8, alleging that two individuals dressed in khaki uniforms stopped him near Chenagaon signal. He claimed these men checked his vehicle documentation and subsequently confiscated Rs 2.23 lakh from his scooter's trunk, citing an election inquiry as justification.
Authorities initially registered a case under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and 319 (cheating by personation) of the BNS.
However, during their investigation, the crime detection unit discovered significant inconsistencies in Mohite's account of the incident.
Police investigations revealed that Mohite had allegedly orchestrated the fake robbery with his accomplice Ranu, also known as Omkar Ankush Bhadarge (29).
Law enforcement officials arrested both individuals and successfully recovered the entire stolen amount, according to police statements.
