PM Modi's Strategic West Bengal Rally: Addressing SIR Controversy in Matua-Dominated Taherpur

During his Bengal trip, PM Modi will deliver an address at a rally in Taherpur, located in the Nadia district.

The Prime Minister's visit comes at a time when Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress has been vocally opposing the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise across the state.

Political analysts anticipate that the Prime Minister may challenge the West Bengal government regarding the SIR issue during his rally in Nadia.

The draft voter list for West Bengal is set to be published on December 16. The timing of PM Modi's rally just four days later highlights the significance of the SIR controversy.

Taherpur in Nadia falls within the Ranaghat Lok Sabha constituency and is situated in the border district of Nadia. The area is notably dominated by the Matua community, giving it particular political importance as the Trinamool Congress also seeks to appeal to Matua voters regarding the SIR issue.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has already conducted anti-SIR rallies in both Nadia and North 24 Parganas districts, areas with substantial Matua populations.

Taherpur holds additional significance due to the large number of refugees who have settled in this border area since the partition.

The Prime Minister's program appears strategically scheduled to simultaneously appeal to both Matua and refugee voters in the region.
