Guwahati:

The special investigation team (SIT) investigating Assam's cultural icon Zubeen Garg's death has submitted a chargesheet to a Guwahati local court. Sandipan Garg, the famous singer's cousin who accompanied him to Singapore for an event, has been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

The chargesheet also names several other individuals for murder charges, including festival organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta, Zubeen's manager Siddartha Sarma, bandmate Sekhar Jyoti Goswami, and co-singer Amritprava Mahanta. Additionally, personal security officers Paresh Baishya and Nandeshwar Bora have been included in the charges.

SIT officials transported the extensive chargesheet documentation in three large boxes. The filing comes nearly three months after Zubeen Garg's death in Singapore, a loss that deeply affected fans across Assam, the northeastern region, and other parts of India.

"It is a meticulously done investigation and the chargesheet runs over 12,000 pages. It proved the case with independent documents... Now it is over to the court... The motive has been clearly tracked and examined by the advocate general... This is a case in which conviction is possible," Sarma stated today.

The investigation has been thorough, with the SIT team traveling to Singapore and questioning approximately 300 witnesses.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently declared in the state assembly that Zubeen Garg's death was a murder, and assured that the SIT would build a watertight case.

Heavy security measures were implemented along the route taken by the SIT to reach the local court today. The chargesheet is expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding Zubeen Garg's death and illuminate key aspects of the months-long investigation.

Meanwhile, the Singapore Police Force (SPF), conducting their own independent investigation into Zubeen Garg's death, stated that preliminary findings have not indicated foul play, and their investigation might require up to three more months to complete.
