West Bengal's AIMIM chapter is expressing optimism about forming an alliance with Humayun Kabir, a Trinamool Congress rebel MLA who has become a significant minority voice as the state approaches elections next year.

According to Imran Solani, the head of AIMIM's Bengal unit, in an exclusive conversation with NDTV, discussions are currently in progress between both parties, and he appears confident about establishing a partnership for certain constituencies in Bengal.

"I've had discussions with Humayun Kabir. He desires an alliance with AIMIM due to Owaisi's nationwide reputation. We are also interested in collaborating with Humayun Kabir for some seats. However, the ultimate decision will be made by Asaduddin Owaisi," Solanki stated.

Kabir gained national attention following his proposition to construct a 'Babri' mosque in the predominantly minority Murshidabad district, designed after the 16th-century Babri Masjid that was demolished in Ayodhya in 1992.

After being suspended by the Trinamool, he has set his sights on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's party's Muslim voter base, hoping to emerge as a "kingmaker" in next year's elections. He has announced plans to launch his own political party on December 22.

AIMIM has been monitoring developments in the eastern state closely since Kabir revealed his intention to seek an alliance with them.

Solanki has affirmed that the Owaisi-led party will mount a strong challenge, suggesting that Banerjee will face a "difficult election" this time.

"We will contest the elections in Bengal. Our organization is stronger than before, and Asaduddin Owaisi is particularly assertive this time. He is very engaged. I have spoken with him multiple times," he mentioned.

Though a decision regarding which seats to contest is still pending, he highlighted that AIMIM has established strong foundations in Malda, Murshidabad, Birbhum, North and South Dinajpur, and several areas in South Bengal, including some constituencies in Kolkata.

He added that Owaisi will also be campaigning in the Malda-Murshidabad region.

Solanki further accused Banerjee of neglecting minorities despite securing victory through minority votes, which he predicted would backfire during the elections.

"This will be a challenging election for Mamata Banerjee. Her inconsistent positions on SIR and the Waqf Bill have been noticed by minorities. She has overlooked the minorities. Muslims in Bengal are dissatisfied with Mamata Banerjee. This will influence outcomes in minority-dominated districts," he concluded.
