New Delhi:

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officially commenced construction on Friday for the highly anticipated Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block corridor under Phase-IV.

This development, designated as Golden Line-11, is projected to substantially enhance connectivity throughout South Delhi.

The inaugural test pile and ceremonial groundbreaking took place near Pushpa Bhawan in proximity to Saket.

DMRC begins the construction work on Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block Corridor. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) today commenced construction work on the crucial Saket G Block- Lajpat Nagar corridor of Phase-IV. This represents the first section beyond Phase-IV's primary corridors.

Dr. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director, along with other senior DMRC officials, attended the event. Representatives from Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), the organization responsible for executing the construction project, were also present.

This marks the first new section following the primary Phase-IV corridors where actual civil construction has initiated and is considered a significant milestone in Delhi Metro's network expansion.

The new corridor connecting Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block will be entirely elevated featuring eight stations:

Lajpat Nagar

Andrews Ganj

GK-1

Chirag Delhi

Pushpa Bhawan

Saket District Centre

Pushp Vihar

Saket G Block

This route will serve densely populated residential areas including Greater Kailash-1, Saket, and Pushp Vihar, while providing improved access to numerous schools and government offices. Daily commutes for hundreds of thousands of travelers in the region are expected to become more efficient and convenient once the corridor becomes operational.

The new line will connect with three major existing metro corridors. Key interchange points include:

Lajpat Nagar - Interchange with Violet Line and Pink Line

Chirag Delhi - Interchange with Magenta Line

This development will establish Lajpat Nagar as a triple-interchange station.

Each coach on the forthcoming corridor is designed to accommodate approximately 300 passengers, including both seated and standing capacity. The total capacity will reach around 900 passengers per trip. By 2041, with increased train frequency and continued area development, the corridor is projected to serve over 1.2 lakh passengers daily.
