DK Shivakumar has stated that the Karnataka government is actively addressing the pothole issue
Bengaluru:
Potholes exist everywhere, including in front of the Prime Minister's residence in Delhi, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar emphasized today while highlighting that the state administration is working diligently to repair potholes across Bengaluru.
"We are addressing all potholes. Our teams are working continuously despite rainfall. Every corporation area sees approximately two hundred potholes being filled daily. In total, about 1,000 potholes are being repaired each day throughout Bengaluru," explained Mr. Shivakumar, who also serves as the minister for Bengaluru development, in his media statement.
"During my visit to Delhi, I observed numerous potholes there. I encourage you to have your Delhi correspondents investigate how many potholes exist, even near the Prime Minister's residence. I want to convey this message to major IT companies as well; these issues are universal. This challenge exists nationwide, we acknowledge our responsibility and are fulfilling it, but focusing exclusively on Karnataka's situation is unfair," the Deputy Chief Minister remarked, noting that Bengaluru's pothole problems were present during BJP's governance too. "Had BJP maintained the roads properly, we wouldn't face this situation now. They failed to do so. Regardless, we will continue our work."
The pothole situation in India's technology hub gained national attention after prominent business leaders highlighted Bengaluru's road conditions and traffic challenges. Rajesh Yabaji, CEO and co-founder of BlackBuck, announced the logistics company's decision to relocate from Bellandur, where they had been based for nine years. "It has become exceedingly difficult to remain here. We have decided to move," he stated in an X post. Explaining this significant decision, he cited, "The average commute for my colleagues has increased to over 1.5 hours each way. Roads are deteriorated with potholes and dust, coupled with minimal effort toward repairs. I don't anticipate any improvements in the next 5 years." Many social media users shared similar concerns. Later, the BlackBuck CEO clarified that the company would relocate within Bengaluru itself, dismissing reports suggesting they were leaving the city entirely.
NDTV previously interviewed Mr. Shivakumar regarding India Inc's concerns. He acknowledged that his government is working to address these issues but added that they cannot prevent companies from relocating. "However, no city can compare to Bengaluru and the infrastructure we provide. Companies evaluated what Bengaluru offers before establishing themselves here and made informed decisions," he stated.
