IndiGo Submits Revised Winter Schedule to DGCA Following 10% Flight Reduction Order

IndiGo has submitted a revised winter flight schedule to India's aviation regulator DGCA after being ordered to reduce operations by 10% due to crew shortages. The airline, which was previously approved to operate approximately 2,200 daily flights, now faces a reduction of about 220 flights per day through March next year as regulators work to align the carrier's schedule with available pilot resources.

Mumbai:

Following the cancellation of thousands of flights, troubled domestic carrier IndiGo has submitted its revised flight schedule to the aviation regulator DGCA after the government mandated a 10 percent reduction in its winter operations.

The airline has been under intense scrutiny from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation due to service disruptions caused by crew shortages since the beginning of this month. DGCA instructed IndiGo to submit the revised schedule by 5 PM on Wednesday.

"IndiGo has complied with the DGCA's Tuesday order by submitting the revised winter schedule," according to a source.

The specific routes that IndiGo has agreed to remove from its schedule under the revised plan are not immediately available.

Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu explained on Tuesday that the 10 percent reduction was implemented to align IndiGo's schedule with the number of pilots currently available at the airline.

Under its winter schedule, which began on the last Saturday of October and will run until the last week of March next year, IndiGo had been permitted to operate around 2,200 flights.

A 10 percent reduction in winter flight operations would result in approximately 220 fewer flights per day.
