Tragic Accident: Newborn Dies After Being Crushed Between Sleeping Parents - Safe Infant Sleep Guidelines

In a tragic incident in Amroha's Gajraula area, a newborn infant lost his life after being accidentally crushed between his sleeping parents, according to police and family statements released Wednesday.

The baby boy, named Sufian, was born on November 10 and was the only child of 25-year-old Saddam Abbasi and his wife Asma. The fatal incident occurred on Saturday night when the parents placed their infant between them on the bed before falling asleep.

Family members reported that both parents unconsciously shifted positions during the night, causing their 26-day-old son to become trapped between their bodies.

The tragedy was discovered Sunday morning when Asma awoke to feed her baby and found him unresponsive. Saddam immediately rushed the infant to Gajraula Community Health Centre, where medical staff pronounced him dead upon arrival.

According to relatives, the infant had experienced health complications since birth, including respiratory difficulties and jaundice.

Medical staff at the health center determined that suffocation was the cause of death.

Child specialist Dr. Amit Verma emphasized that newborns should sleep separately from adults, noting that bed-sharing significantly increases the risk of accidental suffocation.

The parents, initially engaged in a brief argument at the hospital while in shock, were subsequently consoled by family members. Officials confirmed that no police complaint has been filed regarding the incident.
