Uber Launches Goods Delivery Service, Metro Ticket Booking In Bengaluru

Uber has clarified that their new service is exclusively designed for enterprise solutions.
Bengaluru:
Uber has introduced its B2B logistics service, Uber Direct, in Bengaluru alongside metro ticketing integration for Namma Metro, both leveraging the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). This development represents Uber's enhanced commitment to creating connected, digital-first mobility and commerce solutions in one of India's most technologically advanced cities.
The company states that these two launches demonstrate its dedication to utilizing India's expanding digital public infrastructure to enhance travel, delivery, and enterprise logistics experiences for millions of users.
Regarding the operations of Uber Direct, the company emphasized that it is strictly an enterprise-focused solution, unlike Uber Courier which consumers can access directly through the application.
The Uber Direct service functions as follows:
Customers place orders via a brand's website or application
Uber handles the delivery process seamlessly in the background
End users do not interact directly with Uber
Designed as a plug-and-play logistics layer for businesses, the service is currently operational in Bengaluru with drivers fulfilling deliveries of groceries, essential items, and gifts. Uber has announced that the platform will expand to include food deliveries, partnering with brands such as KFC, Burger King, Three Bolt, and various local restaurants.
The ONDC-based transit integration, already functioning in Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai, has now been extended to Bengaluru. Travelers can now purchase QR-based Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) tickets directly through the Uber application, with UPI serving as the exclusive payment method. The application will additionally provide real-time information about metro services.
Prabhjeet Singh, President of Uber India and South Asia, stated that Bengaluru's innovation-driven ecosystem makes it the perfect location for strengthening Uber's ONDC integrations.
"When we examine Uber's broader vision, it revolves around going anywhere and getting anything. We have 1.5 million active earners utilizing this network. Currently, we're not establishing major growth targets; we prefer a step-by-step approach. Our focus is ensuring service quality meets consumer expectations," Singh explained to NDTV.
He further added, "Uber continues to offer attractive earnings to drivers. Drivers currently using the app can also participate in the Uber Direct service, which will enhance their earning potential and extend their time on the network."
Discussing Uber Shuttle, Singh mentioned, "These are early days. We're engaged in ongoing discussions about Uber Shuttle as an additional mobility solution for Bengaluru. It's currently operational in Delhi and Kolkata, receiving positive consumer feedback. We'll continue dialogues with the government and stakeholders to introduce it at the appropriate time and in the right format."
Vibhor Jain, acting Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer of ONDC, commented that Uber Direct demonstrates the effectiveness of interoperable commerce and will assist businesses in accessing a standardized, scalable logistics infrastructure.
Dr. T Ravishankar, Managing Director of BMRCL, welcomed the integration, describing it as an enhancement to seamless travel and improved first- and last-mile connectivity.
Looking forward, Uber intends to expand both Uber Direct and metro ticketing integrations to additional cities in 2026, reinforcing its role in addressing India's evolving mobility and logistics requirements.
