As the IndiGo cancellation crisis continues, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has begun implementing measures to prevent similar disruptions that have affected travelers across India over the past week.
Civil aviation ministry officials are currently conducting inspections at major airports throughout the country to evaluate and monitor the ongoing situation.
On Tuesday, Madhu Sudana Sankar, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, inspected Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport and engaged with IndiGo personnel. The airline reported that it is providing cancellation updates to affected passengers every six hours.
The official was also notified that approximately 780 pieces of passenger luggage remain undelivered, with 90% expected to be returned by Wednesday morning.
The senior official acknowledged that the airport operator is providing necessary support to stranded passengers, including food, water, seating arrangements, medical assistance, and PRM support, while maintaining proper hygiene standards throughout the facility.
Today, a Ministry of Civil Aviation official visited Mumbai Airport on the instructions of the Hon'ble Minister to assess the on-ground situation arising from the ongoing operational crisis of IndiGo and interacted with passengers. Airport operators and CISF are ensuring full support.
Mumbai Airport faces significant space constraints, yet Air Traffic Control (ATC) and various airport stakeholders have managed to accommodate approximately 25 grounded aircraft at the space-limited facility.
The ministry commended the CISF unit at CSMIA for their exemplary support throughout this period in effectively managing and streamlining passenger operations.
Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) is operated by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises, which serves as the flagship company of the globally diversified Adani Group. MIAL functions as a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) venture between AAHL, which holds a 74% majority stake, and the Airports Authority of India, which maintains the remaining 26%.
A similar assessment was conducted at Kolkata Airport. Tanvi Sundriyal, IAS, Director, Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), visited Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata today to evaluate the situation resulting from recent IndiGo operational issues and to ensure passenger services remain smooth and uninterrupted.
An official from the Ministry of Civil Aviation visited Kolkata Airport today to review facilitation across key passenger touchpoints, including airline counters, queue management and baggage handling. Passengers confirmed receiving timely updates on cancellations, with no significant issues reported.
