The Indian Air Force is set to honor the victory of the 1971 war with an impressive aerial demonstration at Air Force Station in Mohanbari, Dibrugarh, Assam on Wednesday as part of the Vijay Diwas Celebration.
The Eastern Air Command has organized this event to exhibit the operational excellence, accuracy, and professionalism of the Indian Air Force through a breathtaking flying display over Dibrugarh's verdant landscape. The aerial showcase will include formidable aircraft such as Sukhoi Su-30 fighters, Dornier Do-228 surveillance aircraft, Antonov An-32 transport planes, Chinook heavy-lift helicopters, and Mi-17 helicopters.
Scheduled from 9 am to 2.30 pm, the celebration will be attended by military and civilian dignitaries, air veterans, and students from local schools. Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh is expected to attend, while Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's visit has reportedly been cancelled.
Beyond the flying display, the event will feature an exhibition and the release of a movie commemorating the 1971 war, which resulted in Bangladesh's liberation and stands as one of India's most significant military victories.
The Vijay Diwas commemoration is particularly meaningful for the Eastern Air Command, which played a vital role during the 1971 conflict. Air operations conducted from eastern sector bases, including Mohanbari, were crucial in achieving air superiority and providing support for ground operations during the war.
The conflict, which began on December 3, concluded with Pakistan's Eastern Army surrendering on December 16 in Dhaka, leading to the creation of Bangladesh, formerly East Pakistan.
A delegation of 20 members from Bangladesh, including eight Muktijodhas and two active officers from Bangladesh's army, will participate in the Vijay Diwas celebrations marking the Indian Armed Forces' historic triumph over Pakistan in the 1971 war, as reported by news agency PTI.
