A tragic accident occurred near Kalwa Hospital in Thane, Maharashtra, during the early hours of Monday morning when a motorcyclist lost his life in a horrific incident.
The rider's foot became trapped in an exposed manhole, causing him to fall onto the road. Officials reported that due to insufficient lighting, the victim was unable to see the dangerous opening. Tragically, as he lay on the ground, an oncoming truck traveling at high speed ran over him, resulting in immediate fatality.
Upon inspection, the manhole was found to be significantly recessed below the road surface, surrounded by a substantial depression. This uneven road condition has been creating a particularly hazardous situation for two-wheeled vehicles.
Local residents have expressed outrage following the incident, alleging that despite numerous similar accidents involving both motorcyclists and pedestrians, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has failed to address these serious infrastructure concerns.
This tragedy follows another fatal incident earlier this year when a 47-year-old woman, Anita Patil, died after falling from a motorcycle being driven by her husband, Anil. The couple was returning to their home in Navje village from Palghar district when their vehicle hit a pothole and skidded. Both riders were thrown from the motorcycle, with Anita sustaining severe head trauma. Though she was rushed to a nearby medical facility, she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
