Mumbai:
IndiGo's Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers and Chief Operating Officer Isidre Porqueras have submitted their responses to the show cause notices issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), according to an airline source on Monday.
Both executives were required to submit their replies by 6 pm on Monday to address the notices.
"Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers and Chief Operating Officer Isidre Porqueras have filed replies to the show cause notice," confirmed an IndiGo source to PTI.
However, the specific content of their responses remains undisclosed at this time.
On Saturday, the DGCA issued show cause notices to IndiGo's CEO and COO requesting explanations within 24 hours regarding the widespread flight disruptions.
The initial deadline was subsequently extended to 6 pm on Monday after the airline requested additional time from the regulatory authority.
IndiGo has experienced significant operational challenges for seven consecutive days, resulting in hundreds of flight cancellations and delays, causing considerable inconvenience to thousands of passengers.
In the notices addressed to Elbers and Porqueras, the aviation regulator stated that the extensive operational failures indicate substantial deficiencies in planning, oversight, and resource management.
Porqueras also serves as the Accountable Manager for the airline.
"...as the CEO, you are responsible for ensuring effective management of the airline, but you have failed in your duty to ensure timely arrangements for the conduct of reliable operations and the availability of requisite facilities to the passengers," stated the regulator in the notice delivered to Elbers.
The notices emphasized that the primary cause of the flight disruptions is the failure to provide adequate arrangements to address the revised requirements for smooth implementation of the approved Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) scheme for the airline.
