Bhagwant Mann Impressed By Korean Woman's Fluent Punjabi

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann experienced a remarkable moment during his South Korea visit when he encountered a Korean woman speaking fluent Punjabi. The interaction, which has gained traction on social media, showed the Chief Minister's genuine surprise at her language proficiency.

In the video, the woman respectfully introduced herself in Punjabi, saying, "I am Simran Kaur, a daughter-in-law from Punjab. By the way, my real name is (Korean name). I am Korean Punjabi, my husband is Punjabi." Her husband, standing beside her, mentioned they had been married for 20 years and expressed delight at meeting the Chief Minister in Korea.

Clearly impressed, Mann inquired about how she learned Punjabi. She credited her in-laws for teaching her the language and expressed her pleasure at meeting him.

Sharing this heartwarming encounter on Instagram, Chief Minister Mann wrote, "Our mother tongue, Punjabi, is not just a language for us… it is our identity… I got the opportunity to meet a couple during my visit to South Korea… it was very nice to hear the mother tongue, Punjabi, from the mouth of a Korean-born daughter."

Mann's visit to South Korea is strategic, serving as part of the state government's outreach initiative ahead of the 6th Progressive Punjab Investors' Summit scheduled in Mohali from March 13-15, 2026.

During his stay, Mann also connected with members of the Punjabi diaspora in Seoul, encouraging them to promote Punjab on the global stage. He extended invitations to Korean companies to invest in the state.

The Chief Minister highlighted that Punjab's industry-friendly policies have successfully attracted investors already. He called for collaborative efforts to enhance industrial growth, emphasizing that increased investments would generate employment opportunities for youth and strengthen the state's economy, contributing to his vision of a 'Rangla (colorful) Punjab.'

Mann also discussed improvements in infrastructure, industrial capacity, and investment opportunities. The state has already facilitated investments exceeding Rs 1.4 lakh crore.

In a significant diplomatic engagement, Mann met with India's Ambassador to South Korea, Gourangalal Das, presenting Punjab's plans for expanding economic and technological collaboration across various sectors including food processing, agri-tech, renewable energy, manufacturing, defense, aerospace, and urban infrastructure.

The Punjab delegation's schedule includes meetings with major Korean corporations such as Daewoo E & C, GS E & C, and Nongshim, exploring opportunities in construction, infrastructure, and advanced food processing.

Mann is also set to participate in a roundtable discussion on ease of doing business in Punjab, engaging with legal firms, investors, and business associations.
