Doda:

The Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police in Doda achieved a major success on Sunday in a search operation conducted in a coordinated manner in the Bhalara Forest area, falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Thathri.

The operation was supervised by SSP Doda Sandeep Mehta, who oversaw the entire mission from beginning to end.

Based on specific intelligence inputs, the SOG team launched a carefully planned search operation in the forested region. Their efforts led to the significant discovery of one SLR rifle, two magazines, and 22 live rounds of ammunition.

This recovery of arms and ammunition represents an important milestone in strengthening the security infrastructure in the region. Officials noted that it would help prevent potential misuse by anti-social or anti-national elements operating in the area.

The successful operation underscores the unwavering dedication of the Jammu & Kashmir Police to maintain peace, stability, and ensure public safety throughout District Doda.

Authorities have initiated a thorough investigation to determine the origin of the recovered weapons and identify the individuals or groups responsible for hiding them in the forest area.

This operation follows previous security actions in the Kashmir region. In November, Shopian police conducted extensive raids across multiple locations in their district, targeting individuals and premises with connections to Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), an organization banned under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir (JeI-J&K) has faced multiple bans from the Indian government over the years. The most recent prohibition was imposed in 2019 under UAPA, citing "anti-national separatist activities" and alleged connections with militant groups such as Hizbul Mujahideen. In February 2024, this ban was extended for an additional five years.

The Jamaat-e-Islami movement originated in 1941 in British India, founded by Islamic scholar and theorist Syed Abul A'la Maududi. Following the 1947 partition of India, the movement split into independent organizations in the successor states, becoming 'Jamaat-e-Islami' Pakistan and 'Jamaat-e-Islami' Hind in India.
