Navjot Singh Sidhu's Political Future: Wife Claims 500 Crore Price Tag for Punjab CM Position

Navjot Kaur Sidhu has stated that her husband, Navjot Singh Sidhu, will resume his political career if the Congress party names him as their chief ministerial candidate in Punjab.

She emphasized that while they lack the financial resources to offer to any political party, they possess the capability to transform Punjab into a "golden state."

"We consistently advocate for Punjab and Punjabiyat...however, we don't have Rs 500 crore that we could provide to secure the chief minister's position," she remarked to journalists on Saturday following her meeting with Governor Gulab Chand Kataria regarding various issues, including the alleged deteriorating law and order situation in the state.

When questioned if anyone had requested money from them, she clarified that no direct demands were made, but suggested that "whoever provides a suitcase containing Rs 500 crore becomes the CM."

"If any party grants him the authority to enhance Punjab's condition. We cannot financially support any party, but we will deliver outcomes and transform Punjab into a prosperous state," she asserted.

She also highlighted the internal conflicts within the Punjab Congress unit, claiming that five leaders are already aspiring for the chief ministerial role and would prevent Sidhu from advancing.

In response to another question, she mentioned that her husband maintains a "strong connection" with the Congress party and party leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

"However, with such extensive internal discord, I doubt they will allow Navjot Sidhu's promotion, as there are already five potential CM candidates who are determined to undermine the Congress. If the high command recognizes this reality, then the situation might differ," she explained.

When asked if the cricketer-turned-politician would rejoin the BJP should they offer him this responsibility, she replied, "I cannot speak on his behalf." Regarding whether Sidhu would return to active politics if Congress announces him as their chief ministerial candidate, she confirmed he would. "Otherwise, he's earning well and is content," she added.

The former Punjab Congress chief has been noticeably absent from party events and activities for several months and did not participate in campaigning during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Sidhu returned to cricket commentary for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.

In April, he launched his YouTube channel, 'Navjot Sidhu Official,' dedicated to sharing his life experiences, cricket discussions, commentary, motivational talks, and lifestyle content.

When previously questioned about his potential return to active politics, Sidhu had responded, "Time will tell," maintaining that his political engagement was always motivated by public welfare rather than personal gain.

The next Punjab Assembly elections are scheduled for 2027.
