A 58-year-old biology instructor working as a booth level officer (BLO) for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign passed away at his residence in Modinagar's Nehru Nagar area, according to officials on Saturday.
District administration officials reported that Lal Mohan Singh, who taught at Modi Science and Commerce Inter College, apparently died from a brain hemorrhage.
Satish Chand Agarwal, the college principal, informed reporters that Singh had been experiencing illness and was under "significant pressure" due to the door-to-door verification responsibilities.
"The administration had issued warnings that the work must be completed regardless of circumstances. He was operating under considerable stress," the principal stated.
Singh had been tasked with SIR duty in the Sahibabad Assembly constituency.
Modinagar Assistant Commissioner of Police Amit Saxena said, "The SDM of Modinagar informed me that Lal Mohan Singh succumbed to a brain hemorrhage on Friday night, and the SDM is investigating the administrative aspects following this incident." The electoral roll revision has been in progress across the state since early November.
Uttar Pradesh has recorded several instances of suicides and deaths among BLOs and other officials involved in the SIR amid allegations of excessive workload, stress, and harassment during this electoral exercise undertaken to update voter lists.
