A wildlife official engaged in conducting a tiger census was tragically killed by a wild elephant in the northern district of Kerala, according to police reports on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Kalimuthu (52), who worked as a forest department watcher.

The fatal incident took place within the Attappadi forest range where Kalimuthu was part of a three-member team of wildlife officials carrying out census procedures.

As the team was returning from their work, they were suddenly confronted by a wild elephant that charged at them, causing them to disperse in panic.

While two of the officials were fortunate enough to escape with only minor injuries, Kalimuthu was unfortunately discovered dead in a nearby area, police confirmed.

Authorities noted that Kalimuthu was from the Nellipathi tribal settlement located in Agali.
