S Jaishankar On His New Year's Resolution For 2026

Foreign Minister S Jaishankar was questioned if Donald Trump's actions in the US ever disturbed his sleep.

During a recent interview, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar discussed his New Year's resolution for 2026. When asked if his resolution involved "a certain DJT" - referring to US President Donald Trump - Jaishankar admitted the question caught him off guard.

Speaking with NDTV's CEO and Editor-In-Chief Rahul Kanwal at the HT Leadership Summit on December 6, Jaishankar responded, "It isn't six weeks yet," highlighting how rapidly diplomatic situations can evolve.

"Ask me this on the 31st," he suggested. "At the pace the world is moving, the new year is still far away," the Foreign Minister added.

In a more lighthearted moment, when questioned whether Trump's actions ever kept him awake at night, Jaishankar firmly denied this concern.

He shared that he often monitors global developments, sometimes waking during the night to check on news from Washington, DC. However, when directly asked if Trump was responsible for disrupting his sleep, Jaishankar dismissed the idea.

"He's not, I assure you. I've always had this habit of being awake and sleeping well at the same time. One part of you sleeps, one part stays alert. Most of the people I work with aren't in my time zone, so something is always happening somewhere. You learn to build that into your life," he explained.

During the interview, Jaishankar also emphasized that the world has experienced numerous significant changes recently, including challenges to globalization, shifts in Middle Eastern dynamics, and evolving US global influence.

The Foreign Minister stressed that capability is essential for navigating unexpected situations.

"You know the world will change around us... If we are going to be able to change things we are going to have to do it very carefully... Today's world is so intricate and often so contradictory that the safest thing to bet on is capability. If you have capability, you can handle contingencies because there will be contingencies, there will be unforeseen circumstances," he remarked.
