Russian President Vladimir Putin's two-day visit to India yielded significant outcomes including a mobility agreement for Indian workers, a strategic fertilizer joint venture, and enhanced bilateral relations, as highlighted by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. The 23rd India-Russia Summit focused on deepening economic cooperation in defense, energy, and skilled labor mobility, with India reaffirming its stance as a "champion of peace" regarding the Ukraine conflict.

Putin visited India for two-days and attended a state dinner at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

New Delhi:

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar highlighted three significant outcomes from Russian President Vladimir Putin's two-day visit to India - a mobility agreement, a joint venture on fertilizers, and efforts to strengthen bilateral relations.

Speaking at the HT Leadership Summit with NDTV's CEO and Editor-In-Chief Rahul Kanwal, Jaishankar emphasized that the mobility agreement, which will facilitate seamless work opportunities for Indians in Russia, was "one big outcome."

He further explained, "Another was understanding on a joint venture on fertilizers. We are the world's second biggest fertilizer importer after Brazil. It's a recurring issue we have. Also, because the fertilizer sources have been unstable. They've turned on and turned off the tap. We had an agreement to create an important, substantial joint venture on fertilizer, in a way you can say it's food security."

According to Jaishankar, Putin's delegation included numerous business representatives, which "made it a very different visit" with considerable focus on enhancing bilateral relations.

During this visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally received Putin at the New Delhi airport - a rare gesture. Breaking protocol, both leaders traveled together in the same Toyota Fortuner to 7 Lok Kalyan Marg. On the second day, Putin was honored with a tri-services guard at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in President Droupadi Murmu's presence.

The two leaders later met at Hyderabad House for the 23rd India-Russia Summit to discuss deepening economic cooperation, particularly in defense, energy, and skilled labor mobility. During their televised meeting, Putin mentioned that Russia is working toward a 'peaceful settlement' in Ukraine, sharing those proposal details with India. PM Modi reaffirmed India's position as a "champion of peace," advocating for diplomatic solutions rather than continued military conflict.

President Murmu hosted Putin for a state dinner at Rashtrapati Bhavan before his departure.

Notably, Putin's visit occurred while New Delhi engages in trade talks with the US to reduce tariffs imposed by President Trump on Indian goods over Russia-India oil transactions.
