Indian Railways Deploys 116 Additional Coaches Across 37 Premium Trains Following Flight Cancellations

In response to widespread flight cancellations, Indian Railways has significantly expanded capacity by adding 116 coaches to 37 premium trains nationwide. Southern Railway leads with enhancements to 18 trains, while special services connect major corridors including Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Thiruvananthapuram routes to accommodate stranded travelers.

Railways Adds 116 Coaches To 37 Trains Amid IndiGo Cancellations

The Indian Railways has responded swiftly to increased passenger demand following widespread flight cancellations by adding 116 additional coaches to 37 premium trains, operating over 114 enhanced trips nationwide.

Southern Railway (SR) has implemented the most significant capacity expansion, enhancing 18 trains with additional Chair Car and Sleeper Class coaches on high-demand routes. These augmentations, effective from December 6, 2025, substantially increase accommodation availability across the southern region.

Northern Railway (NR) has enhanced eight trains by adding 3AC and Chair Car coaches, improving availability on heavily traveled northern corridors. Western Railway (WR) has upgraded four high-demand trains with additional 3AC and 2AC coaches, particularly targeting routes connecting western regions to the national capital.

East Central Railway (ECR) has strengthened the Rajendra Nagar-New Delhi (12309) service by adding 2AC coaches for five trips between December 6-10, 2025, providing enhanced capacity on the critical Bihar-Delhi sector.

East Coast Railway (ECOR) has improved Bhubaneswar-New Delhi services (Trains 20817/20811/20823) by adding 2AC coaches across five trips, bolstering connectivity between Odisha and the capital.

Eastern Railway (ER) has implemented augmentations in three key trains, adding Sleeper Class coaches over six trips on December 7 and 8 to meet increased regional and inter-state travel demand in eastern regions.

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has enhanced two important trains with 3AC and Sleeper coaches over eight trips each from December 6-13, 2025, ensuring continued capacity for travelers in the Northeast.

In addition to these enhancements, Indian Railways is operating four special train services: the Gorakhpur-Anand Vihar Terminal-Gorakhpur Special (05591/05592) with four trips between December 7-9; the New Delhi-Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan-New Delhi Reserved Vande Bharat Special (02439/02440) on December 6 for Jammu region connectivity; the New Delhi-Mumbai Central-New Delhi Reserved Superfast Special (04002/04001) on December 6-7 for western sector demand; and the Hazrat Nizamuddin-Thiruvananthapuram Central Reserved Superfast Special (04080) running one-way on December 6 for southern region long-distance travel.
