Another Shooting In Kolkata Ahead Of Durga Puja, 1 Dead

Following a shootout at a Kolkata gym in Charu Market yesterday, another violent incident occurred in the Garden Reach area on Monday, resulting in one fatality, according to police reports.

Early Monday morning, locals in the Garden Reach area heard gunshots and discovered the body of a young man with bullet wounds near the DC Port office. They immediately notified authorities at the West Port Police Station, who promptly arrived at the scene.

Investigators found the victim's body wrapped in plastic with a revolver and bag situated nearby. "We recovered a body this morning and are working to identify the young man based on contents found in the bag," a Kolkata Police official stated. The victim reportedly sustained a gunshot wound to the head, and the body has been sent for post-mortem examination. The incident is believed to have occurred around 9:45 am.

Police officials commented, "Initial investigation suggests that the perpetrators killed the young man and placed the weapon in his hand before fleeing, attempting to make it appear as a suicide. We are examining all potential angles in this case."

Authorities added that the possibility of weapons being brought into Kolkata from other states during the Puja festival season cannot be dismissed.

This incident follows Sunday morning's shooting at a gym in the Charu Market area, where two unidentified individuals entered wearing raincoats and helmets before firing multiple rounds. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in that incident.

After discharging their weapons, the two assailants fled the scene. Police have launched an investigation and believe the gym owner was the intended target.
