Tragic Loss at Kuno: Cheetah Cub Dies One Day After Release Into Wild

A 10-month-old cheetah cub was found dead at Kuno National Park just one day after being released into the wild with its mother Veera and sibling on International Cheetah Day. The remaining 28 cheetahs at the park, including 8 adults and 20 India-born cubs, are reported to be in good health as officials await autopsy results to determine the cause of death.

Kuno National Park currently houses a total of 28 cheetahs.

A forest official reported that one of the two cheetah cubs that were released into the wild at Kuno National Park on Thursday was discovered dead on Friday.

"We found one of female cheetah Veera's cubs, approximately 10 months old, dead in the forest area this afternoon," the official stated.

On Thursday, which coincided with International Cheetah Day, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav had released female cheetah Veera and her two cubs into the park's free-ranging area.

According to the official, one of the cubs became separated from its mother and sibling during the night and was discovered dead several hours later.

The official noted that the exact cause of death will be determined after receiving the autopsy report.

The official confirmed that Veera and her surviving cub were together and doing well.

Kuno National Park now maintains a population of 28 cheetahs, comprising 8 adults (5 females and 3 males) and 20 India-born cubs.

The official affirmed that all surviving cheetahs are in good health.
