Navi Mumbai Airport To Get Railway Station, Special Gift, Says Fadnavis

The airport has recently completed a critical exercise demonstrating its preparedness to commence commercial operations.

Mumbai:

As the Navi Mumbai International Airport prepares to launch operations on December 25, passengers will benefit from enhanced connectivity with the operationalization of Targhar railway station on the Uran-Belapur line nearby.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis shared on X that the railway station represents "a special gift for Mumbaikars."

"Thank you, Hon. PM Narendra Modi Ji, and Hon. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw ji, for initiating additional local train services: Nerul-Uran-Nerul (4 trips) and Belapur-Uran-Belapur (6 trips), in response to my request. Grateful for the approval of stoppages at Targhar and Gavhan," Fadnavis stated.

Fadnavis emphasized that the railway station would substantially improve commuter experience and simplify daily travel for Mumbai residents.

Situated approximately 1.5 kilometers from the airport, Targhar station serves as vital infrastructure for both air travelers and airport personnel. The station features parking facilities, retail outlets, and direct airport connections via walkways and shuttles. While the Belapur-Uran line has been operational, trains previously bypassed Targhar as the station was under development.

The newly constructed station spans 2 lakh square feet and has been designed as a forward-thinking transit hub providing seamless connectivity to the Navi Mumbai International Airport. It will function as a crucial interchange point between the Harbour Line, the upcoming Coastal Metro, and the proposed airport skytrain, enabling smooth transfers for passengers.

Developed by City Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) at a cost of Rs 112 crore, the railway facility incorporates three island platforms and two end platforms, each measuring 270 meters in length and 12 meters in width. Additional features include subways for cross-platform access, commuter parking at all four corners, and a dedicated drop-off zone accommodating buses, cars, and autorickshaws.

Meanwhile, the Navi Mumbai International Airport has successfully completed its ORAT (Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer) exercise, a significant milestone confirming its readiness for commercial operations beginning December 25.

"As we prepare for flights on December 25, our ORAT Team successfully completed our first ever full-scale integrated passenger trial with hundreds of simulated travellers. From check-in with IndiGo, Akasa, and Air India Express to security, boarding, and baggage reclaim, every step was tested to perfection. A huge thank you to our 'first passengers,' CISF, L&T, our airline partners, and the entire NMIAL team for making this milestone possible," the airport announced in an official statement.
