Hyderabad:

Dr. Parthasarathi Reddy, a Bengaluru physician identified as the second primary suspect in a disturbing organ transplant racket operating in Andhra Pradesh, turned himself in to authorities at the Annamayya district court on Thursday evening. With Dr. Reddy now in custody, investigators expect the case to progress more rapidly.

The extensive organ-trafficking operation was discovered in Madanapalle city after a 29-year-old woman named Yamuna tragically died during an unauthorized kidney extraction procedure at Global Multi-Speciality Hospital, a private medical facility.

According to police investigations, middlemen allegedly enticed Yamuna, who resided in Visakhapatnam, with an offer of Rs 8 lakh for her kidney. The procedure was reportedly conducted on November 9 by a surgical team from Bengaluru, under the apparent coordination of Dr. Kampa Anjaneyulu, who serves as both the promoter of Global Multi-Speciality Hospital and the health services coordinator for Annamayya.

When Yamuna's condition deteriorated during surgery, resulting in her death early on November 10, authorities filed charges under organ trafficking and criminal statutes.

To date, authorities have detained nine individuals, including physicians, managers of dialysis units, and brokers. Several suspects remain at large as investigators expand their inquiry across multiple states including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Goa, and Telangana.
