Gurugram:
A 58-year-old businessman lost his life when a speeding car struck him from behind while he was cycling in the DLF phase 2 area, according to police statements released on Thursday.
The tragic incident occurred around 7:15 am on Wednesday. Police identified the victim as Amitabh Jain.
Although the Santro driver immediately fled the scene, the entire incident was captured by a CCTV camera from a nearby residence, police reported.
Amitabh Jain was immediately transported to a hospital, where medical professionals pronounced him dead upon arrival.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim's cousin, Kanti Jain, authorities registered an FIR against the unidentified driver under Sections 106, 281, and 324(2) of the BNS at the DLF phase 2 police station.
"Police have successfully retrieved the vehicle's registration number and identified its original owner, who had recently sold the car. A comprehensive search operation is now underway to apprehend the driver," explained a senior investigating officer.
The businessman's son resides in the United Kingdom, while his daughter lives in Bangalore. He had been living in Gurugram with his wife.
Following the postmortem examination, authorities released the body to the family. Police noted that the family has characterized the incident as an accident and has not expressed any suspicions regarding foul play.
However, local residents and internet users have raised questions about the incident, with some suggesting it might have been a deliberate attack resulting from personal enmity.
Several individuals shared their concerns on social media platform X; one user posted footage of the incident with the comment, "What's with the Santro Driver? Rammed cycle, cyclist no more. Driver distracted or intoxicated?"
