Hyderabad Airport Maintains Normal Operations Despite Widespread IndiGo Flight Cancellations

GMR Hyderabad International Airport has confirmed that despite IndiGo airlines facing significant operational and technical challenges resulting in 33 flight cancellations over December 2-3, the airport's overall operations remain normal. The disruption is part of a wider crisis affecting major Indian airports, with nearly 200 cancellations reported nationwide, partially attributed to revised Flight Duty Time Limitation regulations.

Hyderabad Airport Says Ops Normal Despite IndiGo Cancellations

Hyderabad:

GMR Hyderabad International Airport (RGIA) has issued an official statement to address the growing confusion and chaos among travelers following numerous flight cancellations, primarily affecting IndiGo airlines.

The airport authorities confirmed that IndiGo encountered "many operational and technical issues" which disrupted their flight schedule on December 2 and 3. Despite these challenges, the airport emphasized that general operations within the facility continued to function normally.

Passenger confusion intensified as many dealt with unexpected cancellations and delays, prompting RGIA to publish official updates across their social media channels, providing transparency and detailed cancellation statistics.

According to RGIA's official data, the two-day disruption resulted in 33 flight cancellations affecting both arrivals and departures.

The breakdown showed that on December 2, there were 9 cancelled departures and 5 cancelled arrivals. The situation worsened on December 3, with 7 departure cancellations and 12 arrival cancellations, all attributed to IndiGo's operational difficulties.

The airport's statement highlighted that while IndiGo worked to resolve its technical and operational issues, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport's infrastructure and services remained fully functional without any disruptions.

Travelers were advised to verify their flight status directly with their respective airlines before proceeding to the airport.

Over the preceding two days, IndiGo has experienced one of its most severe operational crises. By Wednesday afternoon, airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad collectively reported nearly 200 flight cancellations.

IndiGo has been facing challenges with its duty roster following the implementation of revised Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) regulations last month. These new rules limit the number of hours crew members can remain on duty. Under these regulations, flying time is restricted to eight hours daily, 35 hours weekly, 125 hours monthly, and 1,000 hours annually.

The situation at Delhi airport was further complicated by a slowdown in the Amadeus system, which airlines utilize for check-ins, reservations, and departure control processes.
