Pune Police have apprehended Shital Tejwani on Wednesday in connection with the controversial government land sale in Mundhwa area to a company owned by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar's son Parth Pawar.
This marks the first arrest in this high-profile case that has drawn significant attention.
Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma confirmed that the Economic Offences Wing took Tejwani into custody.
According to authorities, Tejwani allegedly orchestrated a Rs 300 crore deal to sell the 40-acre land parcel to Amadea Enterprises LLP, a firm owned by Parth Pawar and Digvijay Patil. She reportedly acted as a power of attorney for 272 former landowners. However, the property in question actually belongs to the government and has been leased to the Botanical Survey of India.
Tejwani had previously been questioned by police last month regarding her involvement in the transaction.
Other accused in the case include Digvijay Patil, Parth Pawar's business partner, and suspended tehsildar Suryakant Yeole, who allegedly misused his official position by issuing eviction notices to the Botanical Survey of India. The charges filed include cheating, criminal breach of trust, and other relevant offenses.
Police had earlier stated that Parth Pawar was not named as an accused in the case since his name did not appear on the sale deed.
