Blinkit was established in 2013 under the name Grofers by co-founders Albinder Dhindsa and Saurabh Kumar.
Quick-commerce platform Blinkit has introduced a new customer-friendly feature that enables users to add additional items after they've already placed an order, as announced by CEO Albinder Dhindsa on Wednesday.
"You can now add more items after ordering," Dhindsa shared in his post on X.
The functionality allows customers to include extra products while their initial order is still in the packing stage, he elaborated. This eliminates the need for placing a separate order if something is forgotten at the last minute. Importantly, no additional delivery fee will be charged for these supplementary items.
"Many of you asked for this, and we've now made it possible," Dhindsa noted in his announcement.
This enhancement follows another significant safety-oriented feature launched in August, when Blinkit became India's first quick-commerce application to implement parental controls. This setting enables users to conceal age-restricted categories such as sexual wellness and nicotine products behind a 6-digit PIN, preventing children from encountering sensitive items while browsing the app.
When announcing that update, Dhindsa explained that users could hide such products from search results, lock related order history, and configure a recovery phone number for enhanced security. The app also generates alerts if anyone attempts to modify these settings.
Blinkit's recent updates represent continued evolution in its decade-long journey. Originally founded in 2013 as Grofers by Albinder Dhindsa and Saurabh Kumar, the company began as an on-demand delivery service collaborating with local stores to deliver groceries and essential items. The company subsequently developed a network of dark stores across major Indian cities to accelerate delivery times.
In 2021, Grofers rebranded to Blinkit as it transitioned completely to the quick-commerce model renowned for 10-minute deliveries, operating through a network of micro-warehouses. Currently, Blinkit functions under Zomato, which acquired the company in 2022.
