Chandigarh:

A former close associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi was fatally shot near the Timber Market in Sector-26 in Chandigarh on Monday night, according to police reports.

The victim, Inderpreet Singh, commonly known as Parry (35), was transported to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), where medical staff pronounced him dead upon arrival.

Police are investigating the possibility that the murder stems from inter-gang rivalry and have initiated a case.

Authorities stated that Parry, who had numerous criminal charges against him, departed from a private club in an SUV on Monday evening. Preliminary investigations revealed he was accompanied by another individual whose identity remains unknown.

Shortly after the vehicle began moving, the unidentified companion opened fire on Parry. Approximately five empty bullet casings were discovered inside the SUV.

Shortly thereafter, another vehicle that had been following the SUV stopped nearby. An assailant exited and fired additional shots at Parry to ensure his death before escaping in the same vehicle.

Police reported that more than 10 shots were fired during the attack.

Following the incident, an unverified Facebook post under the name Hari Boxer Arzoo Bishnoi claimed responsibility for the killing, alleging that Parry had extorted money from local clubs and orchestrated attacks on their associates. Police are currently verifying the authenticity of this post.

Parry was once a member of the Bishnoi gang but was believed to have shifted his allegiance to another gangster, Goldy Brar, who had previously separated from the Bishnoi organization.

A resident of Chandigarh Sector 33, Parry had multiple criminal cases filed against him in both the Union territory and Punjab, including attempted murder, extortion, assault, rioting, and violations under the Arms Act.

His connection with Bishnoi originated during their time as students at DAV College. They entered student politics through the Students Organisation of Panjab University in 2010 and were once imprisoned together.

Parry had an extensive history of confrontations with law enforcement. In 2011, Bishnoi, Parry, and others allegedly forced entry into a residence in Sector 40 and assaulted an individual. In March 2022, he was apprehended with a pistol, which subsequently led to the discovery of a Glock pistol during interrogation.
