Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the newly redeveloped Mata Tripura Sundari temple on Monday, fulfilling a long-awaited public expectation. This sacred shrine, recognized as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas revered by Hindus, is located in Udaipur in southern Tripura, according to officials.

The Prime Minister's schedule begins with virtually inaugurating 13 development initiatives worth over Rs 5,127 crore in Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh. Following this, he will arrive in Agartala on Monday afternoon.

From Agartala, Prime Minister Modi will travel by helicopter to Udaipur, the headquarters of Gomati district, situated approximately 65 km south of Agartala, to formally inaugurate the renovated Mata Tripura Sundari temple.

A law enforcement official confirmed that a 12-kilometer roadshow has been arranged from Palatana helipad to the temple, with comprehensive security protocols implemented.

The official further stated that after inaugurating the refurbished temple and its beautified surroundings, PM Modi will perform puja at the Kali temple before returning to Agartala and departing for Delhi. "According to the current schedule, the Prime Minister will not be delivering any public address," the official mentioned.

Monday's visit marks PM Modi's 11th trip to Tripura and his second visit to the Tripura Sundari temple since assuming office as Prime Minister in 2014. He previously visited and offered prayers at the Mata Tripura Sundari temple on April 7, 2019, while his most recent visit to Tripura was on April 17, 2024, during the Lok Sabha election campaign.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, who has visited Udaipur and the Tripura Sundari temple twice in the past two weeks to oversee preparations for the Prime Minister's visit, confirmed that he had extended an invitation to PM Modi to inaugurate the renovated temple and its enhanced surroundings.

In a post on his official X account, CM Saha stated: "The enchanting nighttime supernatural view of the new infrastructure of Mother's Abode, built under the Prasad Project! The mesmerizing complex, blessed by Mother's grace, reflects the deep reverence and gratitude of the current government towards Mother. The entire population of Tripura is eagerly awaiting the grand inauguration by the world-renowned people's leader, the illustrious Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji on the upcoming 22nd of September."

The Chief Minister shared visual documentation of the redeveloped Tripura Sundari temple and its beautified surroundings. A high-ranking official from the Tourism Department revealed that the 524-year-old Tripura Sundari temple has undergone redevelopment at a cost exceeding Rs 52 crore under the PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) scheme of the Union Tourism Ministry. The Tripura government contributed an additional Rs 7 crore to this initiative.

The Tripura Sundari temple in Gomati district represents not only an iconic religious site but also symbolizes the state's rich cultural heritage.

The official emphasized that the Prime Minister's inauguration of the redeveloped temple would underscore its historical and cultural significance.

Constructed in 1501 by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya, the erstwhile ruler of the state, the temple in Udaipur is recognized as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in India and stands as the third such sacred shrine in eastern India, following the Kali temple at Kolkata's Kalighat and the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati.

Following 517 years of rule by numerous kings, the former princely state of Tripura came under Indian government control on October 15, 1949, when a merger agreement was signed between Kanchan Prabha Devi, who was the regent Maharani at that time, and the Governor General.
