Mumbai Jeweller Loses Rs 2.8 Crore in Elaborate Scam by Fake Chief Minister's Office Official

A Mumbai jeweller was defrauded of Rs 2.8 crore by a man falsely claiming to be a Class I officer at the Chief Minister's Office, along with three accomplices. The scam involved extracting cash, gold and diamonds over several months before police filed charges following the victim's complaint.

Authorities in Mumbai have filed a case against an individual who falsely presented himself as an officer from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), along with three accomplices, for allegedly defrauding a jeweller of Rs 2.8 crore, according to officials.

On November 28, Shailesh Jain, a 57-year-old jeweller, submitted a complaint at the Lokmanya Tilak Marg Police Station against four individuals, as confirmed by an official on Monday.

In his statement, Jain explained that he first encountered a man identified as Vaibhav Paresh Thakar (32) in January 2024, who introduced himself as a Class I officer employed at the Chief Minister's Office.

According to the complainant's allegations, Thakar collaborated with his wife, mother-in-law, and an agent named Birju Salla to orchestrate a scheme that defrauded the jeweller of Rs 2.8 crore by obtaining money, gold, and diamonds under various false pretenses between February and April 2024.

Following the complaint, police have registered a case against the four individuals on charges of fraud, and an investigation into the matter is currently underway, the official stated.
