Madhya Pradesh CM Advocates Bhagavad Gita as Essential Educational Resource for All Students

The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh described the Bhagavad Gita as an enduring guide that offers practical wisdom for everyday life.

On Monday, the three-day International Gita Mahotsav commenced with spiritual enthusiasm at Dussehra Ground in Ujjain, where Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav officially inaugurated the festival. During the ceremony, he emphasized that the Bhagavad Gita should be an essential item in every student's schoolbag.

"We have integrated the teachings of the Gita and the divine narratives of Lord Krishna into our educational curriculum," stated the Chief Minister, referencing the new education policy implemented in 2020.

Dr. Yadav formally launched the celebrations by lighting the traditional lamp while scholars chanted melodious Gita shlokas in the background. The gathering warmly welcomed distinguished saint Ranganathacharya Maharaj to the event.

Speaking to an audience comprised of saints, seers, and students of all ages, the Chief Minister characterized the Gita as a timeless source of practical life guidance.

"Lord Krishna and his friend Sudama received education in the same gurukul, demonstrating that no distinction existed between the wealthy and the underprivileged. This represents a crucial lesson for today's students," he remarked.

He further announced that the Madhya Pradesh government has already given the Bhagavad Gita a prominent position in school curriculum. "The Gita transcends religious scripture; it is a repository of practical knowledge that every child should possess," Dr. Yadav emphasized.

The Chief Minister mentioned that he would also participate in similar Gita Mahotsav events in Bhopal later that day and would attend the inauguration of the newly constructed Gita Bhavan in Indore that evening.

The festival, which coincides with Gita Jayanti, features a diverse cultural program. On Monday evening, Bollywood actor-director Puneet Issar was scheduled to present the dance-drama 'Jai Shri Krishna - Gita Saar' at Dussehra Maidan. Tuesday's program includes a performance by Delhi artist Vaishnavi Sharma, followed by the theatrical production 'Krishnayan' directed by Mohit Shewani.

Wednesday's grand finale will showcase renowned artist Salauddin Pasha's innovative "Gita on Wheels" performance alongside other cultural presentations.

A special exhibition displaying paintings in Madhava Darshanam and traditional miniature styles has been attracting substantial crowds.

Shriram Tiwari, Trustee Secretary of Veer Bharat Trust, the organizing body, explained, "The Gita extends far beyond a religious text—it imparts the art of living through knowledge, duty, discipline, and positivity. Through this Mahotsav, we aim to disseminate this eternal message throughout society." The International Gita Mahotsav will continue in Ujjain and across Madhya Pradesh until December 3.
