Activist Rahul Easwar Arrested for Defamation in Sexual Assault Case Against Congress MLA

Rahul Easwar was arrested on Sunday for allegedly defaming the woman who filed a sexual assault complaint against suspended Congress MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil, according to police reports.

Thiruvananthapuram Cyber Police initiated an investigation after the woman complained about being defamed online, with her photographs being circulated as part of a cyber campaign.

Police officials confirmed that a case was registered based on her complaint, and they issued a notice directing Easwar to appear for questioning.

Law enforcement officers arrived at Easwar's home around 5 pm and served him the notice demanding his immediate presence. Easwar subsequently arrived at the Armed Reserve Police Camp in Thiruvananthapuram for interrogation, accompanied by his wife and a police officer.

During the investigation, authorities examined Easwar's electronic devices, including his mobile phone and laptop. After more than three hours of questioning, police decided to formally arrest him. He will be presented before the court on Monday.

Police are currently examining Easwar's social media accounts to verify posts allegedly defaming the complainant. Since the allegations emerged, Easwar has publicly defended Mamkoottathil, maintaining the MLA's innocence.
