Man Shoots Former Girlfriend After Learning About Her Arranged Marriage in Uttar Pradesh

Police reported that the victim, a first-year MSc student, had recently cut communication with the accused.

A 22-year-old woman was shot in Nanglaber village by her former boyfriend of five years after he discovered her family had arranged her marriage to another man, according to police officials.

The incident occurred Saturday evening in the Bhojpur area, as confirmed by Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) Modinagar Amit Saxena.

The accused, 28-year-old Pradeep Kumar, allegedly forced his way into the woman's residence and shot her with a country-made firearm.

Following the shooting, the victim collapsed, prompting family members and neighbors to rush her to a hospital in Modinagar. She was subsequently transferred to Meerut for specialized medical care, the officer explained.

Medical professionals indicated that the bullet is lodged near her ear in the skull, though superficially. A neurosurgical procedure to extract the bullet is scheduled for Monday, according to the ACP.

Investigators revealed that the victim, pursuing her Master's degree, had ceased communication with Pradeep in recent weeks. Reports indicate he was distressed upon learning about her arranged marriage.

Officials also noted that Pradeep had invested considerable money on the woman, including ongoing payments for an air conditioner installed in her home.

"He experienced humiliation among his peer group after discovering her upcoming marriage," Saxena stated.

Law enforcement teams are actively conducting searches at Pradeep's potential hiding locations, the officer added.
