11 Killed, 60 Injured in Tragic Tamil Nadu Government Bus Collision in Sivaganga District

A devastating head-on collision between two Tamil Nadu government buses near Kummangudi in Sivaganga district has resulted in 11 fatalities and 60 injuries. The accident occurred Sunday evening about five kilometers from Pillaiyarpatti, marking the second major bus collision in the region within a week. Emergency teams have rushed the injured to nearby hospitals as investigations into the cause continue.

A devastating collision between two Tamil Nadu government buses near Kummangudi in Sivaganga district on Sunday evening claimed the lives of 11 people, including a child, and left 60 others injured, according to police reports.

The tragic accident occurred approximately five kilometers from Pillaiyarpatti in the Tirupattur area, as confirmed by the Tamil Nadu Police chief.

Bystanders and fellow passengers immediately engaged in rescue efforts, helping to extract numerous victims from the severely damaged vehicles.

One bus was en route from Tiruppur to Karaikudi, while the other was traveling from Karaikudi toward Dindigul district when the head-on collision occurred.

Images from the accident scene revealed that the driver's side of one bus was completely destroyed in the impact.

Video footage from the site showed casualties arranged in a row on the ground. One woman was seen escaping through the front of the bus where the windshield had been shattered, while another woman was observed sitting on the ground with blood streaming from her forehead.

Emergency response teams transported the injured to nearby medical facilities, and officials stated that additional information regarding the cause of the crash and the condition of hospitalized victims is still pending.

This incident marks the second major head-on collision involving buses in southern Tamil Nadu within a week.

Previously, six people lost their lives in Tenkasi district after two private buses collided; investigators had indicated reckless driving by one of the drivers as a potential cause of that accident.
