A concerning government report reveals that 13-15% of Delhi's groundwater samples contain uranium contamination, exceeding safety standards. The Annual Ground Water Quality Report 2025 from the Central Ground Water Board found that out of 86 monitored locations in Delhi, numerous samples failed to meet Bureau of Indian Standards drinking water requirements. Additional contaminants including nitrate and fluoride were also detected, raising serious public health concerns as Delhi extracts approximately 125 million gallons of groundwater daily for drinking purposes.
