Process Begins for Justice Surya Kant's Appointment as Next Chief Justice of India Following BR Gavai's Retirement

The Indian government has initiated the process to appoint Justice Surya Kant as the next Chief Justice of India, as incumbent BR Gavai approaches his November 23 retirement date. Following judicial appointment protocols, Justice Kant, the current seniormost judge after the CJI, is set to lead the Indian judiciary for approximately 15 months starting November 24, 2027.
