The southwest monsoon has officially withdrawn from India on October 16, one day after its usual retreat date. With an 8% surplus rainfall of 937.2mm against the normal 868.6mm, this monsoon season saw significant regional variations, with northwest India receiving 27.3% excess rainfall while the east and northeast recorded their second lowest rainfall since 1901. The IMD forecasts continued above-normal rainfall for most regions during the post-monsoon season.
