According to the latest NCRB report, India recorded 171,418 suicides in 2023, a 0.3% increase from 2022. Family problems (31.9%) and illness (19%) were the major causes, with Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Madhya Pradesh reporting the highest numbers. Young adults between 18-45 years were most vulnerable, while housewives constituted over half of female victims.
