The Maharashtra State Election Commission has formally requested the Election Commission to postpone its Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls until January 2026, citing the Supreme Court-mandated local body elections that will occupy the same officials needed for both processes. With elections pending for 29 municipal corporations and hundreds of local bodies, officials argue that attempting both processes simultaneously would be impractical.
