The Supreme Court has directed the Jharkhand government to declare 126 compartments of Saranda forest as a wildlife sanctuary within three months, excluding six mining areas, and has prohibited mining within one kilometer of its boundary. The judgment affirms that tribal rights will remain protected under the Wildlife Protection Act and Forest Rights Act despite the sanctuary designation.
