DMK leader Indrani Ponvasanth has resigned as Madurai Mayor amid an investigation into a massive property tax scam allegedly worth Rs 200 crore. A Special Investigation Team is probing the systematic manipulation of tax records for 150 commercial buildings between 2022-2024, with eight arrests made so far. Chief Minister MK Stalin had previously directed all four zonal chairpersons to step down following the scandal.
